I see now. OK, basically there are two ways of changing the amount of a Variable Pay:
1. If this employee will be paid a certain amount most of the time, then you should modify it by pressing the Edit button in the screen. This will change the Variable Pay to an initial value that you could change again with the second method below, i.e. when you are doing payroll processing. For instance, 100 dollar for petrol allowance each month if the employee does not claim more than that with supporting receipt.
2. If under certain situation, an employee gets a different amount for a Variable Pay, you may change it on-the-fly DURING payroll processing, step 2 in the process. For instance, this month the employee is travelling a lot with his car, so he needs to claim more than 100 dollars, then you can accommodate for such adhoc cases during payroll processing.
